If you’ve never tried cleaning wine from a light-colored carpet, then you don’t know anything about cleaning.
Even people who have experience with cleaning stubborn grime have trouble with certain stains.
Unfortunately, some of our favorite drinks like wine and coffee could make a persistent mess if we let them get to our interior textiles or clothes. The paradox is that they love spilling on newly washed white carpets or the nice outfit we’ve just put up.
If you are looking for ways to clean tough stains for good then this guide is just for you.
The Right Ways to Clean Different Types of Stains
Water and soap do a great job removing some lighter stains but, in many cases, they simply won’t work.
Fortunately, we have the solution you need for the most common stains that tend to ruin perfectly new clothing or an elegant carpet.
Here is what to do in such urgent situations.
Cleaning Wine Stains
Wine is a marvelous drink that gives us a relaxing time, but sometimes the consequences can be quite persistent. Sometimes you have to survive a hangover and sometimes you have to scrub away a stain that just doesn’t want to go away.
Sometimes a mixture of water and soap will do the trick if we swipe the spillage right away, but if we wait a bit too long, we would have to find other solutions. There is no need to panic though.
Try pouring some salt on the stain and wait for it to absorb the wine and turn pinkish. After that what is left from the stain should easily go away after you wash it with water and detergent.
Demolishing Grease
Grease is something you definitely don’t want on your interior textile, but unfortunately, such mishaps can’t always be prevented. When it does happen, it can get on your nerves, but relax because there is an easy solution.
As in many other cases, vinegar works wonders here too. Mix one-half water and one-half vinegar and apply the solution to the stain. Wait for about 10 minutes and then clean it off with soap and water.
The acidic nature of vinegar will dissolve the grease and you will be good to go.
Removing Ink Stains
Ink is definitely not the hardest thing to clean but it is possible with the right methods. Try treating it using a piece of cotton soaked in rubbing alcohol and be ready to use new pieces of cotton when the one you are currently using has absorbed as much ink as it could.
After you are done clearing the ink, rinse the area with water to get rid of the remaining alcohol. If the blotch is small, you can use a cotton swab.
Cleaning Coffee Blotches
If you are a coffee lover, you know the experience of going out to work in a perfect outfit and then spilling coffee all over yourself. Although unpleasant, this is not something that leaves a permanent stain if you know how to treat it.
Vinegar will work here too, combined with water. Spray it over the blotch, and if the stain is persistent, dab it with a mixture of ammonia and water.
After that, clean the remains with a cloth, soaked in water. After that your clothes or your interior textile will be as good as new.
Treating Permanent Marker
A mark from a permanent marker will not necessarily resist forever if you know what solutions to apply. There are special ink solvents that will go a long way in dissolving the mark, but there will still be some stains left.
To fully remove all signs of the permanent marker, brush the remains away with a cleaning brush and after that rinse what is left with water.
What About Tomato Sauce
Somehow while we cook, no matter what we do, tomato sauce still manages to get in places we don’t expect. If we don’t notice and clean the spot right away, the blotch can become quite hard to come off.
Well, our main hero, white vinegar, is your key in that situation too. Apply it liberally and let it sit.
After about 10-15 minutes, clean it off using a strong detergent and water.
Removing Grass Blemishes
Spending your weekend on a picnic at the park is a wonderful experience, but sometimes unexpected spots can appear on your clothes or your blanket. These ones can be particularly tough due to the strong pigments in the grass.
In order to get rid of them you will need a special stain remover. Apply it with a brush and let it sit for about 15 minutes. You can boost the effect by treating it additionally with vinegar.
At the end, rinse everything away with hot water and soap.
